Francis Brett Young

Francis Brett Young (1884 – 1954) was a novelist, playwright, poet and composer. He trained as a doctor and served in East Africa in the First World War. His main literary output was a series of linked novels based in the West Midlands and Welsh Borders. 1944 saw the publication of his epic poem ‘The Island’.  It tells the story of Britain from the Bronze Age to the Battle of Britain. The first edition sold out upon publication.
